The Legend Of Spyro: The Eternal Night

Spyro is a series that has been around for a while now and the latest iteration has found its way onto the Nintendo Wii.

This is the second title in a trilogy where Spyro has to save the Temple of Souls from the Ape king and thwart his attempts at resurrecting the Dark Master. After a brief cut scene in the beginning your adventure begins with you following a friend who is sneaking out of the temple. After you catch up with her and she basically tells you to leave her alone, you are left to try and save the Temple from the pending attacks. Immediately following this you are introduced to a basic tutorial where you are introduced to some of the frustrating control scheme that will plague you throughout your adventure.

You will quickly realize that the combat in this game is of the button mashing variety with some motion controls thrown in for good measure. Now admittedly the motion controls worked for the most part. Whenever I tried to pull off a special move using motion controls it worked for me the majority of the time. When that is one of the best things you can say for a title however that is never a good thing. There are a host of cheap deaths that you will experience throughout the game which is exasperated by the absolutely horrible camera controls. You only get partial control of the camera which means you will frequently be faced with horrible angles, forcing you to jump blindly and potentially suffer one of those cheap deaths. To make matters worse, when you respawn the enemies you have killed will return so if you happen to get stuck on a spot, you will end up fighting the same enemies over and over again which tends to get incredibly boring, not to mention frustrating. There are also times when you need to complete a double jump yet the controls have a hard time recognizing what you are trying to accomplish.
