Bioshock 2 Conference Call Details

Everyone returns to Rapture this week and TotallyGN was able to participate in a conference call discussing some of the things gamers can expect when they start playing Bioshock 2. The events of Bioshock 2 take place ten years after the original and this time you are a Big Daddy. You aren’t like the other Big Daddy’s running around though. You are quicker, smarter and, most importantly, you have free will. Another very cool item is that you can now step outside of Rapture and search the ocean floor, thanks to the diving suit that all Big Daddy’s wear. This presents some interesting possibilities about what could take place once you leave Rapture and, for the first time, you will get a different perspective of Rapture as you are quite literally on the outside, looking in.
In Bioshock 2 you will still be attempting to get to the Little Sisters that are hanging around with the other Big Daddy’s. Once you get a Little Sister you will then be presented with some options, just like in the original title. Your options have change a bit though now that you are a Big Daddy. You can still harvest them for Adam if you so choose, however, you can also adopt them. If you choose to adopt them the Little Sister will tag along with you and will look for Adam to harvest from corpses, similar to how she did in the first Bioshock. While she is busy harvesting Adam you will need to make sure that the Splicers don’t interfere. While they can’t harm the Little Sister they can slow the process of harvesting Adam allowing more Splicers to come and attack you.
Another new addition to Bioshock 2 is the Big Sister. There were some Little Sisters that were hidden away in the original Bioshock and were never found. They grew up, and thanks to all of the Adam, have become more mutated and turned into a Big Sister. The Big Sisters don’t approve of the Little Sisters hanging around with the Big Daddys and are trying to take the Big Daddys out. Additionally, Andrew Ryan is dead and Rapture has fallen under the control of Sofia Lamb whose ideology differs from what Ryan believed. Sofia’s beliefs are more towards the Marxist side of things.
One complaint that some people had regarding the original Bioshock was the lack of multiplayer. 2K has addressed that this time around with seven new multiplayer modes. The various modes include:
- Survival of the Fittest: A ‘free for all’ mode where each player gets points for killing each of the other players. Whichever player has the most kills at the end of the match wins.
- Civil War: Similar to ‘Survival of the Fittest’ but in this mode players are divided into two teams and the team with the most collective kills at the end of the match wins.
- Last Splicer Standing: A variation of ‘Survival of the Fittest’ where the player does not respawn after being killed. The last player alive at the end of the match is the winner.
- Capture the Sister: A ‘Capture the Flag’ style mode where players are divided into two teams. One team has to protect a Little Sister while the other team tries to steal her and place her in a vent on the other side of the map. After a pre-determined amount of time, the teams switch roles. Whichever team has the most captures at the end of the match wins.
- ADAM Grab: In this mode there is one Little Sister on the map and the player must seek her out and maintain possession of her as long as possible. Whoever has held onto the Sister longest at the end of the match wins.
- Team ADAM Grab: A variant of ‘ADAM Grab’ where players are divided into two teams. The objective is the same, but victory is determined by a collective score rather than individual scores.
- Turf War: Players are split into two teams and each team must reach pre-determined points on the map to capture that point. The team with the most control points over the longest time wins.
Bioshock 2 hits store shelves on February 9th. Be sure to check it out.
