Alan Wake Signal DLC – Preview

Remedy is set to release the first piece of downloadable content next week for their latest title, Alan Wake. This new downloadable content is in the form of a brand new episode that will both answer some questions that you had from the original six episodes while at the same time introducing more questions that need to be answered in future episodes. TotallyGN has had a chance to play the new content for a little while and left very impressed. If you enjoyed the original six episodes of Alan Wake then you should have a lot of fun with this latest episode. The events of “The Signal” begin after the ending of Alan Wake. So, with that in mind, be sure that you have beat Alan Wake before you play this new episode. There are major spoilers in “The Signal” for those who haven’t finished the original episodes yet, so please keep that in mind.

You are once again in Bright Falls and you are having a strange sense of déjà vu. You are in some familiar locations however something doesn’t seem right. As you progress you will see that familiar areas might have changed a bit and that, in some areas, you will have access to rooms that you couldn’t explore in the previous episodes. There will also be some familiar faces that you will run across in one form or another. You will find your standard of assortment of weapons and accessories only this time you might have to do a little more searching. You’ll have to pay attention to your surroundings at all times to try and use the environment to your advantage.

You can incorporate some of the same strategies that you used in the original episodes, however, there will be instances where you come upon something new and you might have to change your tactics slightly. One thing to note is that this episode does have some extremely close quarters combat. Be sure not to back yourself into a corner during a fight or you might get surrounded without any chance of escape. You will also need to scout the environment for ammunition whenever you can. There were a couple of times where I was running really low and just had to duck and dodge until I got to the next checkpoint. This new episode also seemed to be a little bit more difficult than the original episodes. There were times when I had to rethink my strategy and approach a situation with an entirely new approach.

“The Signal” downloadable content is essentially a brand new episode for you to go through and enjoy. The great work that Remedy did with the original game was definitely brought over to “The Signal.” You have the same heart pounding, mind bending experience as the original episodes with some new twists. What more could you ask for? This episode ends on a cliffhanger, like every episode in the game, and I really can’t wait for the next piece of downloadable content to be released so that I can see what happens. Remedy has done a masterful job of incorporating all types of media from the literary world of suspense and horror to the television style presentation. When you are reading a book it has been said that a person’s imagination can make a story far scarier than it was intended to be. In Alan Wake’s case it can also be lethal.
