• Card games are great, the thrill of live play against another live opponent. Seeing their decks and the various tactics they use against you. The issue is when you translate a card game into a video game more often than not it’s pretty grim. Duels of the Planeswalkers is however a great game, let me put that right, it’s a great video game. Also for the first time you can actually build your own deck and use the automated deck builder in helping you in all aspects of the cards.

Another great aspect is that there are a lot of great decks available to begin you Magic journey and start learning how to play. The best place to start is the tutorial, here you can learn all the aspects from using land cards as the base of summoning monsters, using spells, blocking versus attacking. As you play more and more the cards begin to get unlocked, the more games you win and the deeper you go packs of cards get unlocked. You can also buy cards and packs but I would say play more and actually earn the cards.

If you’re a Magic fan these are a lot of different cards here, including the most popular sets: Theros, Ravnica, Innistrad, and Zendikar. What got me very excited was the level of AI, as I got better so did they, I never felt like I could win easily and the whole battle left me satisfied and happy. The graphics are bare bones, in that there are bright colors and everything but no animations. What I would have loved is that the monsters came to life and fought each other.

This is really the best card playing video game on the market at the moment. Its fluid, fast and very fun. Fans will love the deck builder and the various sets on offer. The race to build the best deck is really on, with the new cards, being unlocked and the different packs all add to the spice of this game. There is something very addictive about this game, as I have been playing it over and over. So much so that I have three decks and building more. Casual gamers may not think this is exciting but it really is. I can’t say enough good things about this.
