Final Fantasy XIII has finally hit store shelves in North America.  Final Fantasy XIII marks the dawning of a new era for the celebrated series, bringing the series to multiple high definition consoles simultaneously for the first time in its history.  Introducing new worlds, memorable characters and extraordinary stories with each new installment, the Final Fantasy series has continued to reinvent itself over the last two decades and has shipped over 92 million copies worldwide.  For those who somehow haven’t heard anything about Final Fantasy XIII the premise is below:

Cocoon – a utopia in the sky.  Its inhabitants believed their world a paradise.  Under the Sanctum’s rule, Cocoon had long known peace and prosperity.  Mankind was blessed by its protectors, the benevolent fal’Cie, and believed that tranquil days would continue forever.

Their tranquility was shattered with the discovery of one hostile fal’Cie.  The moment that fal’Cie from Pulse – the feared and detested lowerworld – awoke from its slumber, peace on Cocoon came to an end.  Fal’Cie curse humans, turning them into magic wielding servants.  They become l’Cie – chosen of the fal’Cie.

Those branded with the mark of a l’Cie carry the burden of either fulfilling their Focus or facing a fate harsher than death itself.  A prayer for redemption.  A wish to protect the world.  A promise to challenge destiny.  After thirteen days of fates intertwined, the battle begins.

    • Thought some of you might like to read my 6 hours in impressions: http://origamikid.wordpress.com/2010/03/10/final-fantasy-xiii-impressions-6-hours-of-boredom/#more-243

If you want a hint: (if you dont count FF11 and FF X-2 which in my books dont count as real FF games) then this is the worst FF game i have ever played.

Last 6 hours have been the most bored I have ever been playing a RPG

    • Really?! Well you are not going to like my review when it gets posted because, so far, I am having a lot of fun with the game. 🙂 In my opinion it is a fantastic title. Also, FF X-2 is highly underrated. I’ve been through that game twice and it was also fun.

    • Whhattt?

Brandon you can’t be serious. This game is boring. There is nothing else to say about it at this point. It feels like the last 12 hours have slipped away from my life.

The battle system is beyond broken. IT is incredibly easy and unintuitive. Quite easily the worst battle system change they have ever made- playing as one character, not even a character you get to choose, most of the time – is about as fun as beating my head against a desk. The story makes little to no sense at this point and the whole experience is about as underwhelming as the Sony Move announcement – lame, seen it before.

The characters and constantly slipping in and out of different personalities, no sense of progression or anything like that – the sheer fact that they switch at the click of fingers between so many different moods and personalities is just poor script writing. don’t even get me started on the nerfed sphere grid. For the last 3 or 4 hours my whole team has been constantly maxed out on all things, not even options of where to take your character.

this plays less like Final Fantasy and more PSU
